TIRUCHI: Assuring transparent administration and a people-friendly approach, the new City Police Commissioner E.Ma.Masanamuthu, who took charge on Wednesday, said the public were free to contact him at any time to get their grievances redressed.
“The public can contact me by dialling 9840433005. The identity of callers will be kept confidential,” he said, adding that the callers could even confine themselves to passing on information without identifying themselves.
Spelling out priorities, Mr. Masanamuthu said the City Police while focussing efforts on law and order and crime prevention, would be well prepared for providing VIP bandobust in the city where, he observed, political parties and people converged for holding conferences and processions owing to its convenient location in the State.
Medical check up
By March, the entire strength of City Police right from constables to Commissioner would have gone through medical check up to deal with ailments like blood pressure, diabetes and heart complications that have become common for police personnel due to enormous stress and strain.
The initiative will be complemented with yoga training, Mr.Masanamuthu said.
As for grave crimes, station-level officers would be told that registering a case is as much important as its disposal, he said, and warned tough action against rowdy elements and anti-socials. “There will be no mercy on them.”
The Commissioner also expressed his interest in strengthening community policing concept and was hopeful of getting the 250 vacancies in the City Police unit filled after six months when the thousands of constable and sub-inspector trainees will pass out.
The new Deputy Commissioner of Police – Law and Order, S.Jayapandian took charge subsequently replacing Rupesh Kumar Meena, who has been transferred as Superintendent of Police, Perambalur district.
The new Deputy Commissioner – Crime and Traffic S. Ramaiyan took charge earlier this week.
